Welcome to a new semester
School is up and running again. My break flew by so quickly and I was just starting to finally relax too. :)
This semester I’m taking two classes: 2D Animation II and Intro to Criminal Justice (CJ). Ya, I know, I know. I said I wasn’t going to take an animation class this semester but I just want to get my damn degree done with. I’ve got over 90 credits at this college and no degree to speak of. OK, so technically it’s a Certificate of Computer Animation and not a degree and most of my credits have nothing to do with animation…but I digress. :)
Honestly, I don’t know if taking animation this semester is the right thing for me, because I feel sort of burned out right now, but I’m going into it with a positive attitude. I’m hoping that I’ll get something else to add to (and actually put together) my demo reel. Also, Francis is my professor this semester and we know what to expect from each other so I’m not so worried about it.
My CJ class, on the other hand, is not so easy to figure out. The material is pretty easy to understand and the professor is fun for the most part. However, I now know how Hermione feels around Professor Snape when I’m in that class. I know the answers but the guy never calls on me, even when nobody else in the class knows the answer. OK so I'm the older student and the guy knows I have a Master's degree, but come on. If you hear crickets, call on me. HINT.
Today I decided to not even bother raising my hand because it wasn’t worth the effort after being ignored for three classes. Of course, none of the kids in class were participating, so the guy decided to give a pop quiz. Figures. On top of that, his question “what is Packard’s Theory?” was confusing. Never did he once call anything “Packard’s Theory” nor is there any thing called that in the book. When I looked at the chapter afterward there is one sentence that says (and I’m quoting this from the book) “…Herbert Packer described two competing models of criminal justice administration…” No “Packard’s Theory.” Heck, the word "theory" isn’t even used on the entire freaking page! What’s worse is that I know what these “two competing models” are and could’ve written five freaking pages about it. A zero is not a great way to start the semester.
Sorry. I’m venting. Can you tell I had a bad day today?
My schedule really sucks time-wise this semester too. I have a feeling that for the next four months I’m going to dread Thursdays. With the way my schedule came out, I have CJ class from 8-9:30am and then I have my animation class from 12:40-4:50pm. There isn’t not enough time between classes to make going back home worth it, which means I’m stuck at school for the three hours in between. These are going to be some really long days.
