Snow Day!

I love the timing from the National Weather Service...

Winter Storm Warning

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 AM EDT THISMORNING... ...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM THIS MORNING TO 8 AM EDT SATURDAY...

A WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM THIS MORNING TO 8 AM EDT SATURDAY. A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 AM EDT THIS MORNING.

STEADY PRECIPITATION IS MOSTLY JUST EAST OF THE AREA EARLY THIS MORNING, BUT WILL DEVELOP WESTWARD AS THE MORNING PROGRESSES. PERIODS OF SNOW AND SLEET WILL CONTINUE FROM MID MORNING INTO TONIGHT...AND POSSIBLY INTO EARLY SATURDAY. SNOWFALL RATES WILL BE RELATIVELY LIGHT, MOSTLY LESS THAN AN INCH PER HOUR...BUT STORM TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS TODAY AND TONIGHT ARE FORECAST TO BE 8 TO 12 INCHES, WITH SOME OF THIS ACCUMULATION IN THE FORM OF SLEET. THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL WILL LIKELY FALL FROM THIS AFTERNOON INTO THE OVERNIGHT PERIOD.

BECAUSE OF THE RECENT WARMTH, SNOW MAY BE SLOW TO ACCUMULATE AT FIRST. HOWEVER, THE SNOW COULD BE OF THE WET AND HEAVY VARIETY WHICH WOULD MAKE THE CLEARING OF SNOW MORE DIFFICULT. DANGEROUS TRAVELING CONDITIONS ARE POSSIBLE FROM MID MORNING INTO EARLY SATURDAY.

There isn't even a flake on the ground but this is freaking out so many people that they closed the college I'm working at today. Whoohooo! SNOW DAY!!!!

I'm going back to bed. :)

Why did you get out of bed in the first place?

Anyway, I just realized as I read 8 AM EDT and 8 AM over and over again and again and again --- well, maybe not exactly like that, not so intense --- but I digress . . . uh, where was I?

Right. Time. Yeah, 8 AM in New York and New Jersey or New Mexico or wherever it is in the EDT zone in the States, is 8 PM, but twelve hours later, in Taiwan, like at the same time, only different. 8 AM Monday in Taiwan is 8 PM Sunday in New Brunswick, or whatever, you know, like in that EDT zone thing. I don't get back to the States that often, and I have kinda . . forgotten . . . a few things.

So. It is nearly 5 PM on Monday right now, making it 5 AM on your side of the planet, and if you are reading this, why don't you go back to bed? It's Snow Day!

Oh, wait a minute, no, it's summer right now. Sleep deprivation gets me so confused. Well, in about another hour I can go home. And maybe get some sleep. Except that what woke me up a moment ago was a phone call from my sometimes better-half informing me that she just got hired for a new job after only the second interview and that her new boss really, really likes her, and this company, a large electronics firm located in the somewhat more upscale district of Neihu, a kind of miniature Silicon Valley in northern Taipei City, although it's not really a valley, except that there are mountains pretty nearby, and I guess the entire Taipei City and County landscape itself is in a type of valley, or a basin, actually, being surrounded by mountains and all --- well, maybe some of these things are actually just high hills, like the Catskills or something I guess, though I have never been into the Catskills, but I was in New York City in '88, kinda by a strange turn of events, came up from the Yucatan, and there was that repo man and his cowgal wife who came down to pick up a jaguar convertible, or maybe it was a corvette, that was left behind by the American who murdered his mother in Belize and got imprisoned on a little island, and . . . and . . . I'm feeling a bit sleepy again . . . and lost. Gotta . . . get . . . home. Oh, right, and then listen to my wife talk excitedly about her new job. Jesus Christ! Doesn't it ever stop!! Godammit, Jim!!!!
