Start Up Again

Well I survived the spring semester with only a few bangs and bruises. Only three caught plagiarized papers, no obvious cheating, and only a few students whining about their grades.

That last one always has me laughing. "Why did I get a D?" Hmmm. I'm a sadistic bitch? No, that's not it. I am just playing with you by submitting a D when you deserved an A? No. Not it either. Oh, could it be that you deserved a D? Oh! What a thought. LOL. I even got one student who asked me yesterday if there was anything he could do to up his grade. Um, the semester ended. Maybe if you talked to me two months ago I could have given you extra credit or something. Sheesh.

But I try to not let these few students get to me. Part of me feels like I failed them in some way. Did I not help them enough? Could I have done more? Bear constantly reminds me that I do a lot more for my students than most professors. Even still, I have that doubt. I do try to remind myself that I actually have a lot of good reviews on RateMyProfessors.com and I received numerous e-mails from students telling me how much they enjoyed my class. That makes me feel fantastic. However, there is always one student who makes me question myself and how I taught over the course of the semester. Bah.

Anyways, summer school has started and I'm already in the throes of that. Yes, no break for me. One school ended its spring semester on Monday, the same day the other started its summer school. No rest for the weary.

I'm teaching two sections of Western Civilization I. Basically 4,500 years of history squished into a five week period. I don't think we're going to make that. I'll be happy if we make it to the end of Rome. LOL. The students in the two classes are very different. The first class doesn't say much which means I can get through the material more quickly, but I find that kind of boring. The second class talks a lot and it's constructive discussion, but we're already behind. Personally, I like the second type of class as a teacher. It's so much fun to watch the students actually get involved and show interest in the subject matter.

I just hope I can retain my sanity until I get the three weeks off in August. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Mom had 4 weeks between finishing summer semester an startin grad school, an in that time she got married, had a honeymoon, an moofed acrost the country. How's that fur a relaxin summer bacation?

As fur the stoodents who get Ds, there are many reasons that aren't yur fault. One is simply the diffrint learnin styles. Mom could nefur keep up wif the reading for her history classes. An if they's required classes fur non-majors, it's efun worse. Makin Engineers take history is torture!

Hee, hee, you said BAH an I thot Ayla wrote yur post :-)
