Just a few rants...

Reading the news today, I found out that Congress will be meeting tomorrow to count electoral votes.

Once again, I feel the need to scream "why the fuck are we still doing things this way?" The electoral college was set up because the drafters of our lovely constitution felt that the "joe six-packs" of the world couldn't figure out their heads from their assholes when it came to politics...well, not much has changed in that respect actually but that's not the point. In this day and age, with technology and the fact that most people in this country do have at least a high school education, we should change over to a truly popular elected president.

While electors tend to vote with the popular vote, there have been a number of cases where they haven't. These "faithless electors" don't have much of an impact on the overall vote these days but it would piss me off to no end if my state's elector didn't vote the way the state voted.

And what the hell is going on in the Middle East? I swear, we should just nuke the Middle East and turn it into a parking lot. What is with these people? I blame both sides for this mess. HAMAS should not have fired rockets into Israel in the first place, but they aren't known for their warm and fuzzy tendencies. Israel is acting like they just needed an excuse to bomb the crap out of Gaza and now they have it. Are they going a bit overboard? Just a wee bit.

Germany and France put together a cease-fire agreement but neither Israel nor Palestine is listening. Come on. Germany and France got together to work this thing out. That says something. The least the Israelis and Palestinians can do is listen. Where is Jimmy Carter when you need him? I say we send Jimmy in. He managed to get the Israelis and Egyptians to sign a treaty back in the 70s. That man is a miracle worker.

Last but not least, you know the economy is screwed when Wal-Mart has bad sales. I hope the stimulus plan Obama is working on does some good. It looks like he's taking JFK's path of deficit spending to help boost up the economy. That belief is that you cut taxes but increase federal spending to help the economy restart. Yes, it's bad in the short term since it creates a huge debt. However, if it works, the economy will get the boost and eventually jobs will be created and the tax money will flow in. Once everything is stable then taxes can be raised to pay off the debt.

Can I go back to bed now? :P
