The Etymology of "Fuzzy"

The other day I was going through something online (either another blog or Facebook) and saw a link to an old cartoon I used to watch: Chip 'N Dale's Rescue Rangers.  I was a big fan of the "Disney Afternoon" back when I was in college.  I literally scheduled my classes to make sure I always had the afternoons free to watch my cartoons.  Sad, I know.

A couple of people always ask how I started calling my kitties "Fuzzies."  It goes back to that silly cartoon.  In one of the episodes ("Bearing Up Baby"), a little boy gets lost in the woods and he refers to Dale as "fuzzy."  Then he comes along a bear and calls him "big fuzzy."  Silly, I know, but for some reason that stuck in my head.

(go to about 4:58 to hear the little boy doing the "fuzzy")

Anywho, about a year and a half later, I went with my friend to look at some kittens for her.  The owner had a slew of cats, I mean dozens all over the place and none of them were neutered.  I personally did not like the look of the situation but my friend found a little kitten who was incredibly adorable.  Me...well...I did not plan to bring a kitten home.  It's amazing how the fates work, eh?  I found this little grey and white poof hiding under a piece of furniture.  The first thing that went through my mind was "fuzzy."  I picked her up, looked at her pathetic little face, and fell in love that instant.  History was made that day in two ways: the first is that I brought home Ayla who would gain some modicum of fame later in her life.  The second is that every time I see a kitty now the first word that always goes through my head is "fuzzy."

Ayla, the original Fuzzy
