Week from Hell

Bah. It's bad enough that I'm plagued by the paralyzing Last Month of the Semester Syndrome, but things just keep getting worse and worse.

To start off with, I swear that Bill Gates is the anti-Christ. At the very least, a spawn of Satan. Why do I think that? Well, I really think it's his underlying mission to make people suffer as much as possible. In order to run the XSI 3D animation program on my computer, I need Windows XP Pro. For some reason it won't run on the Home version. Don't ask 'cause I have no clue why. Anywho, I got a copy of XP Pro and installed it. However, because I had a "newer version of Windows already on my computer" I had to do a new install from scratch. Thank god I saw the warning that My Documents folder would be wiped before it was too late. I have 60GB of files in that folder, most of it my artwork and important files. That would've been the ultimate disaster.

Even still, the whole thing was a nightmare. Just even getting the program working properly has been giving me a headache. One freaking driver screws up everything and the damn Windows Explorer freaks out and takes 10 minutes to read the My Computer folder. I've had to literally reinstall the damn program four times already, each time trying to find out which driver isn't working right one at a time. Install the driver. Reboot. Double click on My Computer. Good. Next one. Etc. I think it's the driver for my scanner so I'm now reinstalling Windows XP Pro for the fourth time and going to try to get that driver from the website instead of the disc I have. Let's hope it works.

This alone was bad enough. Now none of my programs are working properly. This is a very Bad Thing when I have a ton of projects due for school. The big one is Adobe CS. I NEED Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign for my graphic design projects. No if's, and's, or but's about it. However, it takes an hour to install the freakin' suite. Bah! Yesterday I had to do all my homework on my tiny laptop 'cause I couldn't get anything to work properly on my desktop. Did you ever try working on a 28x32" mechanical on a tiny 14" laptop monitor? Not fun, let me tell you.

I'm hoping that today I'll get Windows working and stable. I'm just reminded of the Foamy cartoon about tech support (see it at www.illwillpress.com...it's a great freakin' site but not worksafe). He's calling up the Smell computer company and says "this f@$%&ing operating system is as unstable as Charles Manson."

Oh ya...speaking of cartoons, today's In the Bleachers had me rofl. It was perfect for the way I felt today:

May I please have a spare brain? I think mine is melting from the strain...

Oh ya. Did I mention that I had all of my teeth scaled and planed today? Oh what a fun experience that was--NOT! My dentist called it a "deep cleaning," so I wasn't sure what to expect. When I found out I was a little scared. He was going to clean under my gumline which meant pain. I'm not a big fan of novacaine so I opted for a topical instead. Honestly, it wasn't that bad, but even my dentist was surprised that I didn't flinch. I have an unusually high tolerance for pain so I can imagine what this must be like for someone who doesn't. When I came out of there, my gums were a bloody mess (being on blood thinners doesn't help either). It had nothing to do with the skill of the dentist. Dr. Cheng is a great dentist. I guess it's just the procedure itself. There's really no way to do it without blood. I'm sore now and am thinking of just taking a couple of Tylenol and going to sleep for a couple of hours.
