* Idiots
There are very few publications that I’m willing to get annual subscriptions to, especially if they’re over $20 a year. My most expensive is The Hockey News, a normally weekly publication that follows the realm of ice hockey (of which you know I’m fairly addicted to), and IMHO is one of the best sports publications out there.
Anyways, I got the March 1 edition of THN a couple of days ago and the front cover is just four little words:
Of course it’s talking about the cancellation of the season and the league’s revenue loss because of it. It was the *idiots part that got me laughing because it’s so true. The whole lot of them from owners to players are a bunch of idiots. Oh ya…going to play in Europe is really going to help out the players where they’ll be earning the equivalent of maybe $100,000 instead of $1 million. Oh ya…and stopping the season may help a few owners lose less money, but a majority of them would’ve actually MADE money if the season was held. Bah! I say to all of them. The stupid idiots.
On a slightly related note, it looks like a group of fans is trying to keep the Cup tradition alive by awarding the Stanley Cup to somebody, anybody. The only time the Cup wasn’t awarded to a hockey team was in 1918 when a Spanish Flu outbreak caused the cancellation of the finals. This will be only the other time since. However, if these fans get their way, they’ll have the Cup awarded to anybody that is worthy and are petitioning the Hockey Hall of Fame to do so. Interesting idea but I think that the Hall has to make sure it goes to a professional team. Maybe they should award the Stanley Cup to the AHL champion this year instead of their traditional Calder Cup. Heck, give it to the top amateur team even. I just hate to see the Cup sitting and collecting dust in June when it should be having names engraved on it instead.
