One Knows When It's Time to Stand Down...

I've been bitching and complaining over the past two weeks about how tired I've been (exhausted might be a better word) and how much work I have to do. I finally made the decision to drop one of my classes. I hated to do it since I've lost 75% of the tuition I paid for the class, but I think the lost money isn't nearly as important as the sanity I would probably lose instead if I kept up with the four classes.

So, which class did I drop? Life Drawing. There was no way in hell I was going to drop either of my animation classes. I just like Francis too much and I'm finally doing something I love. I wasn't going to drop Steve's class either. I learn so much from the guy and the stuff I create with his guidance is just amazing. So, there went Life Drawing.

I'm kind of glad it was Life Drawing that got the can anyways. I really liked the professor but the amount of homework she gave us just was unbelievable. For this week's class I would've had to do the equivalent of about 8 hours of homework. It's bad enough I come out of that class physically exhausted anyways. You'd be amazed how tired you feel after drawing 18"x24" works of art for four hours. Andrea said I would "feel revitalized." Ha! I felt like I was in desperate need of a nap! What didn't help either was the male model started...um....dripping...while he was modeling. Ewwwwwwwww. I'm sorry but that just totally skeeved me out. I can pass on that.

The nice thing about dropping this class is that it will give me more time to work in the multimedia lab at school on my animations. I've got all the programs to use at home, but the computers and facilities are just so much better there (usually it's the other way around). The classroom has dual processor computers with 1.5GB of RAM, a 220GB hard drive, and 20" flat paneled monitors. Pretty nice, eh? To equip myself with anything near that would cost a few thousand dollars. Something I don't have. Also, the comps have all the Adobe graphic programs so I can also do my graphic design work there as well. And it's all PC's and no Macs. Whooohooo! :) Expensive toyage to play with.

The animation classes are coming along well. Today I felt like crap so I couldn't fully enjoy 3D class but we're learning so much. I'm just trying to get a grasp of modelling using XSI. Our long term (ie. five week long) assignment is to model a specific object in XSI. Mine is an old bleach bottle that has part of its top cut out. I've gotten the basic bottle shape down but the top part with the cut out is a bitch. Francis said that we might not learn how to fix the finer points until weeks four or five. Oh boy. I think I'm going to hate this bottle by the mid-point of the semester.
