She Read My Mind...
I was just catching up on my news via My Yahoo! when I saw this article by Ann Killion about the NHL cancelling its season. Basically she tore the NHL and NHLPA apart calling them a bunch of stupid idiots. The article itself while clearly written with a touch of humor does talk about some serious problems with both sides of this battle (of which I've been ranting about for...oh...six months now). One of my favorite sections was this:
I recommend reading the whole article as Ms. Killion does a fantastic job proving the utter stupidity on both sides.
Oh ya...there are rumors floating around that a small group of owners and players are working together to come up with some sort of agreement to try to un-cancel the season. I wish them luck, but from what I've heard, it wouldn't be financially feasible for the owners to have a shortened season. They would actually have to PAY the players which they've proven costs more to them than if the season was cancelled. They are all greedy and I'm sick of it.
They're all to blame. They all showed their true cards this week. The players came off as stupid and misinformed. Bettman and his gang of 30 millionaires came off as greedy, mean, stupid, short-sighted, mathematically challenged and unable to grasp the difference between strategy and suicide.
For them, this wasn't about trying to find a settlement; it was about trying to crush the opponent. To the outrage and chagrin of its constituency, the players' union broke. And still it wasn't enough.
So we, the fans, are left with three thoughts. If the players were going to give in to a salary cap, why didn't they do it in September? If that's what the owners wanted, why wasn't it enough? And, finally, why are they all so astonishingly stupid?
