The Gates

I meant to write about this over the weekend, but as you know things took a turn for the worst and I got sidetracked.

On Saturday I got to see a rather unusual art exhibit in New York City called The Gates. It was a two week long, $26 million work of art. The artists, Christo and Jean-Claude, created these saffron arches to span the walkways of Central Park. It got a lot of hype in the news and since we had to go to the American Museum of Natural History for a school project of mine, I decided to check it out.

It was just phenomenal! I'm not a lover of modern art, but this piece really made an impression on me. It was such a bleak, grey, snow-covered day in NYC and to see thousands of these bright orange arches all over the place brought a sense of light and brilliance to the Park. I just wish this exhibit could've stayed up for the whole winter because it really added some beautiful color to the otherwise drab winter landscape.

Here are some pictures of The Gates:

This is me next to one of the Gates.
