Good News!

Things have been so crazy that I forgot to post some of the good news I’ve been getting this past week.

First off, my little niece stood on her own for the first time this past Sunday. Whoohoo! She has been crawling around like a little terror but now she’s able to stand up which means she’ll be walking like a little terror soon enough. :) My poor brother. LOL

The second bit of good news is that Lullaby, the Maine Coon owned by my friends Jean and Jennifer, gave birth to a litter of six kittens on Sunday as well. It was a good day all around. Out of the litter, there were two girls (one silver and one smoked tortie) and four boys (one silver, one black smoke, and two red silvers). Now I’m very excited because I wanted either a red or a silver and definitely a boy, so when I saw that she had not one but two red silvers I was ecstatic! I won’t be able to visit them for a few more weeks but that’s ok. I wouldn’t want to do anything that might inadvertently cause any of them any harm. After hearing about this, I immediately called up Jean and let her know that we definitely want one of the red silver boys.

Here’s the picture that Jean sent me. It’s not a great shot but I heard that Lullaby was very overprotective of her babies and wouldn’t let Jean get too close to the kittens.



Darren and I have already been discussing the names for the new kitten. Much to Darren's chagrin, I will NOT name it Monkey. I'm thinking more along the line of Fawkes (after the phoenix in the Harry Potter books) since it's red but we'll see. A lot of times, I don't know the name until I meet the kitten.

Channeling Ayla

Some of you may remember the world's most famous grump, Ayla. Ya, I miss the old girl too. Well, I don't know what is going on but Phoebe has been channeling her an awful lot lately. She has been very grumpy ever since Kukai passed away. But it's more than that: First I noticed that she started hanging out in "jail" (the footrest under my desk), which was Ayla's favorite spot. Then she seriously started turning into a skutch (e.g., attempting to steal burger from me). Today, I saw her back into a defensive position near Loki and I swear I heard the thwap upside his head as she was thinking it. Is this Phoebe channeling Ayla or am I just getting a new grump in the house? Things will be interesting either way. I just can't wait to see Loki's reaction when she does act out on the thwap instead of just thinking about it. P.S. Why can't students ever thank me for As? Long Week

I just got some sad news today. It seems another kitty from the catblogosphere has passed on. Bonnie was special to me in the sense that she was a "friend" of Ayla's. It's kind of hard to explain to the uneducated masses that some people love to write not only about their pets but from their pet's point of view. That's what Jen does over at the Bonnie & Victor site. That's what I did over on the Ayla the Grump site. Through them, we make virtual friends and we learn to love their pets almost as much as they do. It broke my heart to hear that Bonnie passed away and so suddenly. Bear and I were talking about Ayla a few days ago and how I've been having so many problems starting up another kitty blog. He thinks that the Ayla site gave me a truly creative way to vent (unlike this site which is just venting). I hate people...

...who don't know how to drive in the snow. I lived in western NY for a number of years, where the towns up there don't plow unless there's a minimum of four inches. Having a car that could be picked up by four people easily, it is understandable that I quickly learned how to drive in the snow. To me, unless they are predicting a minimum of six inches, I'll go out without any problems. That was until I moved to New Jersey. For some reason, people in New Jersey can't drive in the snow. You get two types of drivers. The first are those who really freak out when the first flake drops and drive 10 mph. Yes, you should slow down in the snow. Common sense dictates that. However, you should not go so slow that people behind you get frustrated and take the risky move of passing you. That causes accidents.
