Where have I been?
Ah yes. I'm once again behind in my blogs. All of them too, which is a PITA.
I just got back from a nice trip to Florida where I visited my parents over spring break. It only took my mom four days to start annoying me and six before I wanted to run away screaming. I think that was a brand new record for me.
My mother and I have a very strange relationship. I love her dearly but we are just so different that we don't understand one another. She was brought up in the 1940s with this whole "Donna Reed" type of mentality where the wife stays at home, cooks dinner, cleans the house, and is a mom. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, but I know that's not for me. I'm a very independent, strong willed, highly educated woman that wants to suck the marrow out of the bone of life. For me, I want to continue with my education, get a job (eventually), and be a mom all at the same time, while hopefully able to afford a maid every once in a while. She values the more materialistic aspects of society (good clothes, good cars, good houses). Sometimes she comes off a bit snobby. I, on the other hand, tend to be a lot more down to earth. I can enjoy a good meal without complaining about the atmosphere of a restaurant for example.
Another bone of contention with my parents is my education. They feel that I've had enough education and that I need to "get a job." It's a valid point, but there's only so much one can do with a MA in history besides teach high school and I don't want to do it. When I mentioned that I'm looking into going into an MFA in Animation or an MA/PhD in Criminal Justice, they were shocked. A life in academia is not the choice career they were hoping for me.
Well, at least I got to see a Boston Red Sox spring training game and worked on my tan so it wasn't too bad. :)
For now, I'm working my ass off trying to get two projects ready for a film festival at school. They are due on April 1st and I'm no where near done with either. Can you tell what I'll be doing? LOL
