Ugh...
...I know. "You don't call, you don't write..." Heck if you had my schedule, you'd be going nuts too.
The sad news is that Ayla is getting sicker. She was diagnosed with skin cancer less than two months ago and now the tumor on her face has gotten so big that she's having problems eating. Last night was really bad. I put her up on the bed to give her pets and brush her. She was enjoying it but you could tell that she wasn't doing well physically. She has gotten so skinny and is having problems walking without tipping to the side a bit. We were positive we were going to have to call the vet this morning to make preparations.
Then this morning, the snarky little girl was showing some spunk. She ran down the stairs yowling at me to feed her. When she was done, she went back up the stairs and began cleaning herself. As I stopped to stare at her, she gave me this look that says "what the fuck do you want?" That was my girl. :)
I am going to call the vet tomorrow to see if there's anything we can do to increase her calorie intake or help the swelling. If not, I will ask him if there is anything we can do to make her comfortable. There isn't much time left. I'd say at the max a week. I just want her to be happy and comfortable in her remaining days. I will also be asking the vet for some sedatives. She doesn't travel well and I know that the day we'll have to bring her in will be rough for her. I want her feeling no pain. Too bad vets won't make housecalls for that. It's not fair that the poor girl can't cross the Rainbow Bridge at home. :(
Both Bear and I made the decision that once it's clear she isn't enjoying life any more then we will do what's best for her. It's so hard. She's been in my life for almost 17 years. Just thinking of not having her in my life is bringing me to tears. I know I have to do what is right for her, not me, but it is incredibly painful.
On to a lighter note---
As for me...well...remind me to never, ever again teach five classes in the summer plus work at the library. I'm amazed I have any sanity left.
Things are starting to wind down a little. The NY college has ended for the summer and I turned in all my final grades. The NJ college ends on Thursday. All the class preps are done and the final written. All I have left is to grade a few late papers, slide the finals through the ScanTron machine (thanks the gods for technology), and then plug the numbers into my handy dandy Excel spreadsheet I developed to calculate the final grades. I hand those in Thursday night, get paid, and then...
...THE THREE WEEK VACATION BEGINS!!!
Yes, three whole weeks. I even took the time off from the library. I've been joking around that I'll sleep for the first week, play World of Warcraft the second, and get some work done around the house for the last.

Have the vet explain the procedure to you. I had a friend come over both times, but I was OK.
When they stop eating and drinking, its time, but they will tell you! I promise!
