A Nice Quiet Weekend

Is it really November? You couldn't tell by the weather outside. It's been in the mid- to upper-60s for the past week and I've even been wearing shorts. Heck...I'm wearing shorts now. This isn't right for northern NJ for this time of year.

You would think I would be out enjoying the nice weather, right? Hehe. Both Darren and I had such a hectic week last week that both of us just crashed over the weekend. For Darren it was two days of sleeping. For me, two days of reading. I managed to start and finish two books over the weekend to bring my yearly total to 89. Yep, I'm a nerd.

Darren and I did manage to catch our first live hockey game in a very long time this past Thursday. His boss was kind enough to give us tickets that evening for the Rangers v. Devils game. They were primo seats (center ice lower tier), and they were FREE. That's the important part, especially since they were $95 seats, and we even got free parking.

The game itself sucked. The Rangers pretty much own the Devils this season which isn't a good thing. The Rangers ended up winning 4-2. What's worse is that I think there were more Rangers fans there than Devils fans which didn't help matters. I'm sorry but 90% of the Rangers fans out there are complete jerks. They're aren't as bad as Flyers fans, but pretty close. They are even worse when the Rangers win. Darren and I were quick to get out of the arena after the game. Oh well.

Didn't your mother ever tell you that "if you have nothing good to say, then don't say anything at all?" Manners are so few and far between these days.

BTW, I'll be the first person to admit I am a little nuts, but it's in a good way. At least I put a name and face to my comments. If you don't like me or my blog than you are free to not read it. :P

Channeling Ayla

Some of you may remember the world's most famous grump, Ayla. Ya, I miss the old girl too. Well, I don't know what is going on but Phoebe has been channeling her an awful lot lately. She has been very grumpy ever since Kukai passed away. But it's more than that: First I noticed that she started hanging out in "jail" (the footrest under my desk), which was Ayla's favorite spot. Then she seriously started turning into a skutch (e.g., attempting to steal burger from me). Today, I saw her back into a defensive position near Loki and I swear I heard the thwap upside his head as she was thinking it. Is this Phoebe channeling Ayla or am I just getting a new grump in the house? Things will be interesting either way. Mommie Dearest

My life has been hell since October.  Between teaching, grad school, and family issues, I had been looking forward to a relaxing summer.  No grad courses this summer and my teaching load was light enough that I really didn't have to do much work.  I planned many days at the pool, getting my house organized, and my entire list of fall courses fully prepped. Then life happened. Doesn't it always? A lot of it occurred with my dad passing away in May.  I worked in hospice as a social work intern for a year so I know what grief can do.  What I went through was "normal."  He was a good man who I loved dearly so I knew grieving was going to be a part of the equation.  However, I always forget the "mom factor."
