Slow but Sure

The phone has been ringing off the hook, which is a very Good Thing. It seems that Darren's skill set is desireable to a lot of people out there. He has gotten a bunch of calls from recruiters, some for ridulous jobs (a 3-month contract in Minneapolis for example) to some that have some serious potential. He is meaning with one recruiter next week for a possible job opening in NYC. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on all of these.

My stomach flu is slowly, so slowly fading away. I still have bouts of nausea and stomach pains, but nothing near the hell I went through on Monday night into Tuesday. The only thing really slowing down is how weak I feel. It's like the darn bug sucked the life out of me. It's also kind of frustrating because I'm really hungry but once I eat I feel like I'm going to throw up again. But I am getting better.

Slowly, but surely we are making steps. :)

Channeling Ayla

Some of you may remember the world's most famous grump, Ayla. Ya, I miss the old girl too. Well, I don't know what is going on but Phoebe has been channeling her an awful lot lately. She has been very grumpy ever since Kukai passed away. But it's more than that: First I noticed that she started hanging out in "jail" (the footrest under my desk), which was Ayla's favorite spot. Then she seriously started turning into a skutch (e.g., attempting to steal burger from me). Today, I saw her back into a defensive position near Loki and I swear I heard the thwap upside his head as she was thinking it. Is this Phoebe channeling Ayla or am I just getting a new grump in the house? Things will be interesting either way. I just can't wait to see Loki's reaction when she does act out on the thwap instead of just thinking about it. P.S. Why can't students ever thank me for As? Mommie Dearest

My life has been hell since October.  Between teaching, grad school, and family issues, I had been looking forward to a relaxing summer.  No grad courses this summer and my teaching load was light enough that I really didn't have to do much work.  I planned many days at the pool, getting my house organized, and my entire list of fall courses fully prepped. Then life happened. Doesn't it always? A lot of it occurred with my dad passing away in May.  I worked in hospice as a social work intern for a year so I know what grief can do.  What I went through was "normal."  He was a good man who I loved dearly so I knew grieving was going to be a part of the equation.  However, I always forget the "mom factor."
