Double Poopies
What a week (and it's only Wednesday).
I found out today that my best friend is getting fired from her job. Many of us saw this coming. We all work at the same college together and the president has this wondrous idea of firing all of the lecturers (temporary full-time, non-tenure track folks like me). Originally we were told that we would be "grandfathered" in, allowed to run our course of the four years our contracts allow. However, this is not the case. It looks like we will all be gone at the end of the semester.
The president's idea? Replace all of us with tenure-lines. For every three lecturers, there are to be two tenure lines. However, this does not guarantee us lecturers will get the jobs. In my case, the one tenure line opening up is for a Latin American specialist (don't get me started on that one). My friend was fired as of the end of the semester and another colleague was told if you don't get the tenure line, you're gone. My boss wasn't in today so I don't know what is going on. What is worse is that my department has three lecturers but we're only getting one line. How fucked up is that?
It's a shame too. Both of those ladies are damn good teachers. One will not have the opportunity to vie for a tenure line because of politics. The other has already been offered a better opportunity at another college. And personally I really don't want to go back to adjuncting. Oh I'll apply for the tenure-line but I'm a European historian. Unless somebody upstairs really likes me, I'm screwed.
And people wonder why I'm depressed.
P.S. To Adrienne: I tried Wellbutrin but it caused bad buzzing in my head. Lexapro is the only one that seems to work for me.

I work at Pink Sneakers Productions and we are currently casting for a documentary series, titled "Life Chronicles," on TLC. I was wondering if you would be interested in participating in a documentary about cat lovers.
We are looking for individuals who have lots of cats in order to document the chaos that goes along with taking care of numerous cats. I would love it if you could get involved! Each episode in this series aims to document the day-to-day lives of people sharing their life experiences. Our goal is to enlighten our viewers and try to get rid of the stigma that is attached to having a lot of cats and to have you share your love of cats with other cat lovers. If you are interested in this amazing opportunity please email us at casting@pinksneakers.net in order to communicate further and work out the details. I hope to talk to you soon! Thanks!
