That's My Boy

Tonight Martin Brodeur, the beloved goalie of the New Jersey Devils, broke the all time wins record for a goalie with 552. He just surpassed his childhood hero, Patrick Roy.

I always knew Marty was a special player. Going back to the days when he was a rookie, I remember some of the incredible saves he made. And I was there for one of his own goals (yes, he scored a goal) during the '97 playoffs against Montreal.

Off the ice, I had the privilege of meeting him quite a number of times. He was always a sweet kid who was open to the fans. I have so many things autographed by him I lost count. It was only after some crazed fans started going after his kids that he became less approachable. Too bad too because a lot of people probably missed an opportunity to know the man behind the mask.

Good job Marty! Now let's go break Terry Sawchuck's career shutout record.
