End of the Semester Fun

Today was the last day of the summer session which means I am finally on vacation. A long, well deserved vacation. People seem to think that educators have it easy in that we get all this time off to casually lay around in the sun and do fun things. I guess if you're lucky enough to have that cushy well-paid tenure line then it's possible, but I even see those guys working their asses off with multiple courses over the summer. Me? I haven't had a "real" vacation since January. Yes, I had spring break off but that was spent digging myself from out of the huge mound of papers to be graded so it wasn't technically a vacation. I guess the week off in-between semesters could be a vacation but that was spent recuperating from the spring and prepping for the summer. Now though, I have three weeks off. I still have work to do in getting ready for the fall but I promised myself some fun.

What I plan on doing my summer vacation:

  1. Catch up on some serious sleep. Getting up at 5am took a lot of getting used to and now my body is craving some serious z's.
  2. Play lots and lots of EverQuest 2 and World of Warcraft. I don't get to play my MMO's nearly often enough and dammit, I miss them.
  3. Spend quality time with the Bear. It was getting to the point that I was beginning to forget what he looks like. Just kidding. Well, sort of.
  4. Actually use the pool. I thought teaching morning classes would allow me this luxury but I would work until 5pm anyways so that never happened.
  5. Sleep. 'Nuff said.
  6. Read. Lots. I have a stack o' books both literally on my end table next to my bed and in my E-Reader that I've been dying to read since the beginning of the year. As my goal is to read 50 books a year, I have a lot of catching up to do.
  7. Spend time with friends. This includes cranking up the BBQ and inviting lots of people over for some good food, good wine, and good company.
  8. Did I mention sleep? Ah yes.
